Greetings Poetry Lovers,
Look, I don’t know how this happened. You book a gig. Someone else calls
and you book another gig. You’re asked “Would you like to play at such
and such?” and you say “That sounds like fun!” and then, you look up and
“Holy Crap, I’ve got way too much going on.”
So, here it is, the motherlode of all promotional emails. A lot of cool
stuff in way too short a time period. Remember, it’ll take you a lot
less time to read this than it took me to write it:
This coming Thursday (12.13.01), I’ll be at La Tazza 108 in Philadelphia
for the SoundLab series. Sounds cool, but I’m going on at midnight, so
you’ll have to wake me up and tell me how I was.
Then, 2 big nights of 4 WAY STREET. Friday (12.14.01), we visit Gotham
at the Sidewalk Cafe. Never before has the Sidewalk’s humble PA system
used so many of it’s channels at once. Then, Saturday (12.15.01) we
return to the Point in Bryn Mawr, PA, where it all began for us one very
long year ago.
Then, I go back to NYC on the following Monday (12.17.01) to play at The
Bitter End for the NY Songwriter’s Showcase. That means I’ll be able to
rest in between each of the 3 or 4 tunes I’ll play that night and listen
to other overworked singer/songwriters.
Then, 2 Thursdays from now (12.20.01), I will host a very special night
of music at the Tin Angel, celebrating the music and life of George
Harrison. Small payback for the lifetime of joy I’ve received from the
Then, I collapse.
But, there’s, um, other stuff, too (I get a kickback for comma usage).
WXPN TOP 50 ALBUMS OF 2001:
So, I’ve been told that my humble contribution to the world of recorded
sound, ‘Fidelity is the Enemy’, is one of the records you can vote for
in XPN’s year end poll. I’m not really comfortable saying “vote for me”,
so I’m just going to do a series of negative campaign ads on the other
candidates (i.e. “Jeb Loy Nicols: can we really trust him to do what’s
right for New Jersey?” or “Bjork: She’s unAmerican”. perhaps Tori Amos:
“She’s Nuts!”). Okay, if you liked my record: www.xpn.org .
‘IT’S ABOUT CHRISTMAS’ HOLIDAY CD:
Dean Sciarra put together this holiday cd. My contribution is a
recreation of my favorite Christmas record as a kid, ‘The Chipmunk
Song.’ I tried to get it as close to my copy of the 45 as possible,
including speeding the whole thing up a bit, cuz my 45 player really
plays at about 49rpm. There’s no earthly reason why anyone would make a
recording like this, but that’s pretty much the driving principle behind
most of my career. For a laugh, go to
