Manhattan in Philadelphia, Steel City in Phoenixville and a Living Room in NYC:

No Comments 26 October 2006

SATURDAY, 10.28.06 - 9P - THE MANHATTAN ROOM - PHILADELPHIA, PA W/ JAY BENNETT:
A last minute booking to open up for my friend Jay Bennett (formerly of Wilco) at the Manhattan Room in the fabulous Fishtown section of Philly (If NYC can have Penn Station, I suppose it’s only fitting that the Manhttan Room belongs to us).
I’ll be going on at 10p, but come early for the Sparklers and stay late for The Death Ships and Jay.
Oh yeah, it’s Halloween week, so you’re supposed to come dressed as something. I think I’m going with my Harry Nilsson on the cover of Nilsson Schmilsson costume.

SATURDAY, 11.04.06 - 7P - STEEL CITY ANNIVERSARY SHOW - PHOENIXVILLE, PA:
Happy to be back again at Steel City and feeling honoured they asked me to play on their anniversary.? Steel City shows are always some of the best shows in the Philly area (and they send me home with baked goods - gotta love that). It will be after Halloween, so you can dress as nornally - or abnormally - as you would usually.?

MONDAYS 9P IN NOVEMBER - THE LIVING ROOM - NYC - WITH XM RADIO TAPING:
Bringing back the ever-popular Monday night residency at the Living Room - this time all four weeks, so I don’t have to keep re-arranging the furniture. As we did last time, my set each Monday will be followed by a 10p set by Mike Viola, so you can expect Jim and Mike harmonies, made-up songs and spontaneous (and even extraneous) covers from the 60s and 70s as a part of both sets.
Also, I’m really excited to announce that the show on 11.20.06 (that’s the thrid Wednesday) will be taped by XM Satellite radio for broadcast on The Loft as part of their series ‘From the Living Room to The Loft’. Mark your calendars now and work on making your clapping easily identifiable so you can pick yourself out on the radio.

‘SOMEBODY TO LOVE’? - FEATURED ON WXPN FOR HELEN LEICHT’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY - SOON TO BE ON MYSPACE:
One of the real supporters of local Philly music (and good music in general), WXPN’s Helen Leicht, celebrated her 30th year in radio this week and was kind enough to include me as one of a select group of Philly musicians asked to record songs that they loved from her first year on the air, 1976.?
After a really ugly fist fight with the other musicians broke out when everybody’s first choice turned out to be ‘Afternoon Delight’ by Starland Vocal Band (the dispute was only settled by all of us agreeing NOT to record it -? pity), I decided to go for my second choice - ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen (thanks to Jesse Honig for saying “HA! you should do ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen, that would be insane” or something like that ). I know some of you heard it on the air, but I’ll be putting it up on my Myspace page in the next couple of days for a limited time, so stop by. There will also be a blog entry soon documenting the sessions, for those of you who care about how tracks of background vocals there were.

All hell’s gonna break loose - a full night of playing with Mike Viola. We’ve set up the night to have no Mike set, no Jim set - just both of us together and tag-teaming between us to keep the action going and the danger always close at hand. THIS WILL BE ONE TO SEE.
