ROCKWOOD MUSIC HALL and THE SAINT

0 Comments 13 June 2011

Happy Summer!

I hope it’s off to a great start.

I’ve been keeping busy the last couple of months - starting with the uber-enjoyable run of shows with Tracy Bonham and Bleu as The Killer Bs; then an unexpected, quickly-arranged and once-again-magical return to Japan for a three-night run of shows at Cafe Goatee in Kamakura; a bunch of great nights sitting in with my friends Mike Viola, Jill Sobule and John Doe, Pete Donnelly and the aforementioned Ms. Bonham; 2 terrific nights handling keyboard, guitar and vocal duties with the Fab Faux - AND I even snuck in a couple low-key solo shows and some house concerts as well. Damn, I didn’t even realise how busy I’ve been until I typed all that out!

The bad news is that I’ve been struggling with some carpal tunnel issues in my right hand (and then also managed to smash my left index finger in a door), but I seem to have learned how to play whether I can actually feel my fingers or not, so . . .

LET’S PLAY SOME SHOWS!!!

THURSDAY, 6.16.11 - 7P
ROCKWOOD MUSIC HALL
NYC

My first time at the Rockwood. I hope it will be the first of many, but I’m gonna need a little help from my friends, which is a way of saying it would be particularly nice if you made it out to this one and it might be a fine time to bring a friend or two (or three?). TRACY BONHAM will be joining me as my special guest and later on in the evening another upstanding member of the Philly Music Community, MUTLU, has a set on Rockwood’s other stage. C’mon, ‘Friends’ is a rerun that night anyway (this line worked for me when I used it to promote a show in 1998, figured it couldn’t hurt to bust it out).

The Recap:
Thursday, 6.16.11
JIM BOGGIA
Rockwood Music Hall
196 Allen Street - NYC

SATURDAY, 6.18.11
THE SAINT

Early acoustic shows are starting to turn into a regular thing for me at the Saint, and I’m loving it. The last one in back in February was probably one of my best shows of the year so far, I’m hoping to re-create that, except for the part when I couldn’t find the keys to the rental car at the end of the night.

4 Big Shows with Bleu and Tracy Bonham!

5 Comments 22 February 2011

BOGGIA / BONHAM / BLEU SPRING MINI TOUR
MARCH 1 - 4, 2011
NYC - PHILLY - VA - MA

Some Words About The Shows In General:
You can put the names in whatever order you’d like, it still comes out sounding as sweet. I am VERY excited about these shows. Bleu, Tracy Bonham and I played The Borderline in London together last year and it was one of my 2010 highlights. A great bill all the way through and we got to sit in a bit on each other’s sets. We decided that night to bring it all back home and these shows are the result. We’ve been busy planning which tunes we’ll be playing together and I know that it’s going to be special.

Some Words About The Philly Show In Particular:
When looking for a place in Philly to bring this show, we decided to take it to World Cafe Live, with it’s great stage and sound and amazing atmosphere. The ticket price on this show is actually LESS than you’d pay for one of my Philly area solo shows, Bleu and Tracy are both incredible in their own right and the collaboration between the three of us is a treat that may not be repeated here. All of this in the upscale confines of WCL add up to the fact that YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT MISS THIS SHOW. Seriously.

REQUEST ‘THUNDER ROAD’ ON WBJB AND WXPN

I spent a day recently in the studio to record my ukulele version of ‘Thunder Road’ and I’m happy to say that both WXPN and WBJB have been kind enough to play it. This is not for sale, not on the web, it’s a radio-only release. I hope you’ll continue to call and request it and also to let them know you like it when you hear them play it.

This is a bit of an experiment. I’m trying to see if there’s interest in these types of things both from my fans and from the radio stations that I have long-term relationships with. I think the recording turned out really well. I hope you guys like it. Here’s the request line info:

WXPN 215-573-WXPN or requests@xpn.org
WBJB: 732.224.2905

Of course, both stations have live streams on their websites, so you can listen (and request) even if you’re not in the Philly (XPN) or NJ (WBJB - The Night) areas.

Back from the UK, Japan Here I Come

3 Comments 22 November 2010

I write this from the small window of time back in the States between returning from my tour of the UK and leaving for my tour in Japan. Besides catching up on laundry, spending time with my cats and even getting a couple of days to actually see my love, I’ve played four shows and have been cramming my head full of White Album guitar, bass, keyboard, drum and vocal parts (the reason why later in the email) since I’ve been back.

The UK could not have gone better. I want to give a huge thanks to everyone who came to the shows, hosted me in their homes, had me on sessions, took me to movies, made me Sunday Roasts (even the ones not on Sundays) and as well to everyone in the States who sent messages of support through Facebook and Twitter. I always, always love going to the UK, but this trip was particularly special. If you want to re-live some memories, I’ve made a collection of photos on Flickr that you can see here. There’s also this very nice review of my show at The Borderline in London with Tracy Bonham and Bleu. Finally, I’ve included a few videos at the bottom of this emailer.

As good as it’s been, it still getting better, which brings me to . . .
