Greetings Meteorology Enthusiasts,

Rain, rain, go away. Come again some . . . could we at least wait until next week? Well fellow Philadelphians, if you’ve ever considered moving to Seattle, now you know what it’s like. Mother Nature scored round one last week when rain cancelled my scheduled outdoor show in Narberth but I’m trying a couple more times this week to do the outdoor, under-the-stars (or, in Saturday’s case, the sun and stars) concert thing.

I’m feeling pretty confident that the weather is going to cooperate, so catch some sun rays and sound waves together while you can - at the rate we’ve been going this year, this might be the last sunny week for a while.

TUESDAY, 6.23.09 - 7P
EAGLEVIEW CONCERT SERIES
EXTON, PA

It’s becoming a little tradition to play the Eagleview Series. One of the nicest in the area in terms of the setting, the sound and the lineups. Bringing some of the boys in the band with me, so even more reason to grab the blankets and lawn chairs (and the kids) and enjoy an early summer night out.

The Recap:
Tuesday, 6.23.09 - 7p

SATURDAY, 6.27.09 - 5P TO 10P
10TH ANNIVERSARY GORGAS PARK MUSIC FESTIVAL
GORGAS PARK - ROXBOROUGH, PA

I swiped the following off of Ben Arnold’s website, because I don’t think I could say it better myself. I WILL add though that Ben has been an unsung hero over the last 10 years turning the Gorgas Park Summer Concerts into the great thing it’s become. This will be a very special day of music. You should come.

Ben says:

Ten years ago Jim Boggia and I played a couple sets of music outside, in front of the Gorgas Park outhouse and office on a couple pieces of plywood in the rain. Ever since it has become a summer time tradition to get the kids out in the park, spread out the blankets, pop open a couple bottles and hear some great local music under the sun and the stars. Over the years, we’ve had guests Phil Roy, The Brakes, Amos Lee, 4 Way Street, Tom Gillam, The Lowlands, Scott Silipigni and more.

This year we’re celebrating the long haul with a special extended festival style show featuring bluegrass from The Wissahickon Chicken Shack, trippy folk and roll from The Great Unknown, the lovely voice and songs of Adrien Reju, great local hip-hop from Kufi Knots and The Hustle,, the killer pop of Jim Boggia, my band will be playing a set and we always have some very special guests on hand. So, grab a cooler, a chair, a blanket and a friend and come on out!

Just so ya know…the outhouse is still there but now we play under the swanky new Gazebo and, this show is FREE!!

WEDNESDAY, 6.17.09 - 7P
NARBERTH SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARK ‘09
NARBERTH, PA

Great things about Summer: 1. End of Winter. 2. End of Winter Depression. 3. The return of the Mr. Softee truck that drives around my neighborhood STARTING at 10p every night. 4. The Phillies. 5. Outdoor concerts! (Not necessarily in that order.)

Bring the blanket, bring the kids, I’m playing my first outdoor show of the Summer this coming Wednesday, 6.17.09 at 8p in the lovely little borough of Narberth - a village surrounded on all sides by Ardmore and yet they still haven’t surrendered.

SATURDAY, 6.20.09 - 8P
HILLSIDE CAFE
NUTLEY, NJ

I had to look it up on the map, but this is “New York Jersey”, not “Philadelphia Jersey”. So, for those of you in New York City who do the traditional “I gotta get the %@#* out of the city this weekend” summer shuffle . . . why not spend a Saturday night taking in the sights and sounds of Nutley, NJ? I And those of you in the “New York Jersey” area who DON’T like the hassle of going into the city for a show will, I hope, come on out.

FRIDAY, 5.29.09 - 8P - SPLIT LEVEL HOUSE CONCERT SERIES - SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ:

House concerts are always some of the best shows. Intimate, casual, great interaction with the crowd and food. The folks who run the Split Level Concert Series have been doing it for about 8 years, so you know they’ve got it down.

There are VERY FEW tickets left for this, as seating is strictly limited. Hit them at akpr@comcast.net for a reservation.

SATURDAY, 5.30.09 - 8P - THE NIGHT CAT - EASTON, MD:

I played this place about a year ago when they just started doing music and they were still called CoffeeEast and I was really impressed with what they had going in such a short time. Good sound, cool vibe and they even had what we in the biz call an “audience”. Can’t wait to see how it’s blossomed in the last year.

THURSDAY, 4.02.09 - 9P - GENGHIS COHEN - LOS ANGELES, CA

Keeping my promise to play LA more often, I’m back after only a couple short months. Okay, one short month (February) and one full- sized month (March). Even though you guys have filled the room in LA (thank you), I get nervous that it will be empty each time I come back, so please spread the word and bring some music loving friends (thank you).

The Recap:
Thursday, 4.02.09 - 9p

Genghis Cohen
740 N. Fairfax Avenue- Los Angeles, CA
$10. All-Ages.

SATURDAY, 4.11.09 - 8P - JIM BOGGIA AND PETE & J - MILKBOY - ARDMORE, PA

Man, this is going to be great. If you’re old enough to remember the Starboggia Lily shows back at the Point, this is the same concept. I’ll be joining Pete & J, who will also be joining me, playing the whole night together, singing and playing on each other’s songs with a full band (we’ll eat right before we hit the stage).

Still trying to come up with a catchy name - “Jim and Pete & J” is lame, “Pete & J(im) Boggia” is a bit too cute. Whatever you call it though you should consider this: Pete & J’s shows sell out as fast as mine do, so tickets will go twice as fast, so ORDER EARLY.

FRIDAY, 4.17.09 - 9P - FULL BAND AT THE BLINKIN’ LINCOLN - ROXBOROUGH, PA

Hey Roxborough, remember me? Skinny guy, bad vision, lived at the Farm? Ring any bells? When I lived there I used to play there a bunch. Then I moved. Now it’s been a while since I’ve actually played in the old ‘hood (I’ve been wearing hats more lately) and since a lot of y’all tend to be the stay close to home types (hmm, that sounds like me, too), it’s, you know, BEEN A WHILE. I thought we’d fix that.

Heard of that Blinkin’ Lincoln place? Are you currently reading this sitting IN that Blinkin’ Lincoln place? Well, I’m going to play there. Full band - that means you can catch up with Mike and Roger as well, AND even meet Mighty Young Joe Bisirri (you’ll recognize him as both the guy holding the bass and the one who’s NOT either me, Mike or Roger. Also, he’s younger than all of us put together, or maybe all of us taken apart).

Adding to the festivities is the cherry on top of my friend Alex Lipinski, who I met playing in London, rolling through from the UK to open the show. No, he does not actually play with a cherry on top of him.

I will tell you that I am actually more nervous about this show than anything I’ve done in years. I hope you all will come. I hope you’ll all enjoy it. I hope there’s ample drink tickets.

FRIDAY, 2.20.09 - 9P - WHOLE FOODS AFTER DARK - MARLTON, NJ:

It’s like a house concert with a much larger selection of produce. I’ve been asked to be a part of a very cool new thing going on at Whole Foods in Marlton, NJ. After they close shop, they invite folks in for some music and great food. I think this is going to be a very nice event, it should have that house concert intimacy and spontaneity. You’ve got to order tix in advance for this one (details below) and there’s a limited number of seats, so maybe do it sooner rather than later. First 10 folks to buy tix get their choice of paper or plastic.

I’ve been hearing great things about the Note, so make the trek if you’re one of those Philly types or we’ll come to you if you’re more suburbany and if you happen to be long time fans who now attend WCU ?I had better see your butts there or there will be hell to pay.

THIS WEDNESDAY, 12.17.08 - 8:30P - FREE SHOW AND TAPING FOR ABC-6 - BRITTINGHAM’S PUB - LAFAYETTE HILL, PA:

In the spirit of giving for what those of us who like to rattle Bill O’Reilly’s cage call “the holidays”,?I got you all a gift??. . . ?A FREE SHOW.?

If you were wondering what to get me . . . please give the gift of YOU (that is, COME to the FREE SHOW).

John Francis is hosting these nights at Brittingham’s Pub in Lafayette Hill, PA and they are being filmed by ABC6 in Philly for what one can only assume is a future televised broadcast spectacular (details to come).

I’d love it if you’d make me look good by coming out, cheering, drinking and sharing a bit of yule before we all roast chestnuts.

Oh yeah, as a special treat - This will be the first show in about 12 years where I will be able to SEE YOU. Yep, it’s true. Got the peepers (okay, just the right peeper) tweaked and now I’m seeing as well as the average guy who is still blind in one eye and nearsighted, but that’s sort of like super vision to me (though not supervision, I’ve never done well with authority). No, really. I can see. I know, me either. So, come out and let’s celebrate, okay?

So, come. See and be seen. Hear and be heard. (Feel and be felt will be determined on a case-by-case basis.)

SATURDAY - 11.22.08 - 11P - ELECTRIC COMPANY - UTICA, NY:

Kennedy had his Dallas, I have Utica, NY.?I’ve never played Utica, NY.?I don’t know a soul in Utica, NY. I don’t know anyone within a 100 mile radius of Utica, NY. There are no other acts on the bill. This is a full band show. Do the math.?

PLEASE HELP - Kennedy had his Jim Garrison, I have you, my faithful fans. Do YOU know anyone within a 100 mile radius of Utica, NY? PLEASE send them out. They can open the show for all I care. All I know is it’s 5 and a half hours to Utica, NY, which is 11 hours round trip. Do the math.

I’d love to play to at least 1 person for each hour on the road and each person in the band (it’s a four piece). Do the math*.

Despite where we’re playing, Rita Moreno, Morgan Freeman AND Spiderman have all sent their regrets and will NOT be able to attend. But, Rita and Morgan did send this along:

Rita: M
Morgan: T
Rita and Morgan: Empty

Hey, that’s not nice, and I’m not even sure that’s proper phonics. But they do have a point. Please help spread the word.?

WEDNESDAY, 11.26.08 - 8P - STEEL CITY - PHOENIXVILLE, PA:

Kennedy had his Camelot, I have Steel City. Always warm, always friendly, always sold out. A 100 to 1 audience to performer ratio. I did the math for you.

A pre-Thanksgiving throwdown and the last gig of the year for me. Let’s share it together in the spirit of the settlers and the Indians before we took their land.

Opening up the show (yes, there’s even an opener, take THAT Spideman!) are my friends Kaiser-Cartel. I don’t just like them because they’re my labelmates (no, really, that’s not it), and I STILL like them even though they live in Brooklyn (it happens). Make sure to get there early so you can be their friends, too (I can’t really make any promises about you becoming their labelmates, but you COULD move to Brooklyn, if you were into that kind of thing, it’s kinda expensive though and the Phillies did kick the Mets’ asses*).
